Next week, on the 1st March 2018, our creative agency celebrates 32 years in business.
On a sadder note, it’s also the anniversary of agency founder, Chris Cole, who sadly passed away on 26th February 2010.
It was in March 1986 when Chris decided to set up his own business after years of working in ad agencies across the UK. Disillusioned with the industry he loved, he knew the times were changing and the crazy era of ‘Mad Men’ was fizzling out.
Chris believed that looking after your team and creating an enjoyable environment would ultimately lead to great work, so began his journey running an independent full-service advertising & design agency in Glasgow.
Here is quick overview of what we’ve been creating since 1986…
• 1980s – start up years
Our first client was Glasgow University, designing and buying media space in newspapers across Scotland. The studio then designed corporate brochures for Rangers FC when Graeme Souness joined the football club. This project then led us to working with Celtic FC designing the centenary badge for 1987/88 season. Our creative team were then asked to develop branding for the Scottish Football Association (SFA) for tournament campaigns and bespoke creative work for the testimonial of Kenny Dalglish, MBE.
• 1990s – car is king
Media buy & graphic design projects agency for car dealerships across Scotland kept our full-service agency very busy indeed. The motor client experience we possessed wins our agency the media buy contract for Vauxhall Motors UK which we retain for a 5 year period.
• 2000s – brave new world
Creative team embrace all things digital and the demand for websites soars.
Agency media buy work for charities and housing associations across Scotland grows as companies refer us to their contacts in the sector. The recession hits the world in 2008, but Cole AD expand team, move to a larger space, win more work & have fun!
• 2010 – present day
We win award win for Best Client Service UK wide, plus are ranked by RAR UK as Top 10 agency (under 30 staff). New digital wins include The Kitchen Depot as they expand across the UK, plus graphic design work for Hilton Hotels in Scotland. Client roster grows in our Arts Division as we win accounts for the media planning/buying for Festival & Kings Theatres Edinburgh, plus Scottish Ballet too.
So, today is 22nd Feb 2018 and we’ve already won new projects across media buy, design & digital this year.
